The Apple Watch Series 2 Unboxing – can’t tell you guys how excited I was about opening this baby! I had the series 1 for a long time and was impatiently anxious to see the changes between the two series.
Apple Watch Series 2 Unboxing: Differences from the Series 1
The big differences between the two versions of the watch are:
- Series 2 has GPS. This means that you can leave your iPhone at home and still track your walk, run or biking distance. (You could always play music even without your phone – Series 1 or Series 2.)
- Series 2’s display is brighter. You can read it more easily in the bright sunlight. This is huge when you are exercising outside.
- Series 2 is “water resistant up to 50 meters.” Yes, you can swim in it, according to Apple. I haven’t tried this yet, mostly because I’m not a big swimmer.
- The Series 2 has a faster processor than my original watch. (Yes! I can tell that it’s faster).
When I walk or run, I use a running belt. This means that my phone is always with me and the separate GPS is not a huge improvement for me.
The speed, however, and the brighter display are hugely important. Opening the workout app and selecting and starting a workout are much faster now. And the bright display means I don’t have to stop a good run and shade the display to see what’s going on. Some calls just aren’t worth interrupting a workout for, right?
This video is also a good tutorial for those of you who want to see what the setup process is like for a brand new watch. It’s an intuitive process, but it’s nice to hear a discussion of the implications of one option over another as you set the watch up.
