My GPS Altitude Meter app review is the first review on Apple Watch Tips & Tricks. Loved this app when traveling in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Because it’s GPS based, it worked even when our cell signal didn’t. And that was pretty frequently, let me tell ya!
I give this app a 5 in accuracy. It was very close the the altitudes the park service had posted in various locations. You can’t beat that!
It is a cool feature to have a map under the altimeter reading. However, I’d prefer to have bigger text and leave the map off. Especially since we do have a maps app on the watch already.
The app is quite slow to load on the watch. Whether this is do to the often reported slowness of apps on the watch in general or a slow app in particular, I can’t say. I tend to think this is the watch’s problem rather than the app’s.
GPS Altitude Meter App Review
In summary, I won’t look for another altimeter the next time I go mountain climbing. This app did what I needed it to do. For only $0.99, it’s quite a deal.
